Referendum Recap
Question 1 asks voters to authorize the District to borrow $41,800,000 for a school facility improvement project consisting of constructing additions to and renovating Hortonville High School and Greenville Middle School, including safety and site improvements; and acquiring furnishings, fixtures, and equipment for such project.
Improvements include:
GREENVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL | $21,000,000
Greenville Middle School is experiencing the most substantial growth of any school in the District—a nearly 30% increase in students in just four years. *The plan will:
1. Add classroom space, including computer labs, health, and foreign language classrooms
2. Expand the cafeteria/commons area and relocate kitchen and receiving
3. Expand the library, physical education space, and locker rooms
4. Expand parent and staff parking, and reconfigure bus and parent drop-of locations to improve traffic flow and safety
HORTONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL | $20,800,000
Portions of the High School were originally constructed for elementary students. Those spaces are not adequately sized for high school students or today’s educational needs. *The plan will:
1. Construct a two-story classroom addition in the academic wing
2. Create new, larger mathematics classrooms
3. Incorporate group study and student collaboration spaces
4. Relocate administrative and student services areas and construct new secured building entry to improve student safety by eliminating visitor traffic through school hallways
5. Build a wrestling room and renovate the existing room into a multipurpose space
6. Construct new physical education locker rooms and renovate existing locker rooms to eliminate
basement-level facilities and account for additional student growth
7. Renovate and re-purpose existing office space into classrooms
8. Expand the parking lot
Design Process
Following the approval of the referendum question, the architectural design process began for all District-wide projects. The District is working with their design (Blue Design) and construction (Miron) partners to refine and advance the scope and manage the budget. The design process includes three distinct phases to advance preliminary concepts developed prior to the referendum.
Schematic Design (SD) – This phase is currently underway and includes District input to drive design and develop drawings that provide definition to interior and exterior functions, space requirements, adjacencies, and overall design intent.
Design Development (DD)– Once the building footprint has been confirmed and the team has a plan for interior space definition, we will transition into design development. During the DD phase, design concepts and advanced with precise details including structural design, specific mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, and cabinetry, fixtures, and material selections are finalized.
Construction Documents (CD)– In the final phase of the design process, final drawings and specifications used to construct the building, will be produced. All building components and defined in detail. These documents are used in the competitive bid process.
